The Gray Reality

Let me provide you a little insight into a geek’s mindset…

• Everything is black or white.
• It either works or it doesn’t.
• His (or her) way is the right way of doing things.
• I know that already.

What you need to do is reply…

• Let’s talk about more than one right answer…a compromise.
• My degree of “works” is wider than perfection…what is close enough to give me what we need?
• Would you be open to more than one way of accomplishing this task?
• I don’t care about what you know…I want to know how WELL you know it and how GOOD you are at it!

Reality is that black and white thinking creates delays. Black and white thinking limits options. In reality, business has a lot of gray. Get your geeks to accept that reality and you will have more productive conversations.
